Trichilia (Greek, by threes; the fls. are trimerous). Meliaceae. Trees or shrubs, suitable for the warmhouse or outdoors in the extreme S. as ornamentals. Lvs. with 3 lfts. or uneven-pinnate; lfts. opposite or alternate, usually many-paired, rarely 2-paired: panicles many-fld., axillary: fls. large for the order; calyx short, 4-5-toothed or cleft; petals 4-5, erect or spreading; staminal tube 8-10-cleft or -parted; disk annular, free; ovary sunken in the disk, 2-3-celled: caps subglobose, leathery, 2-3-celled.—About 120 species, Trop.
