Streptopus (Greek, twisted stalk, referring to the peduncles). Liliaceae. Twisted Stalk. Perennial herbs, with the aspect of Polygonatum, hardy and adapted to the wild-garden; should be grown in shade or with rich, loose, and moist soil in sunlight. Stems erect from a short dense, or longer, repent rhizome, simple or slightly branched: lvs. alternate, ovate or lanceolate, membranaceous, sessile or clasping: fls. medium-sized, solitary or paired in the axils, nodding, rose or whitish; perianth campanulate, segms. distinct or connate at base; stamens 6; style 3-cleft; ovary sessile, ovoid, 3-celled: berry subglobose, indehiscent.—About 6 species, Eu., Temp.
