Socratea exorrhiza, the Walking Palm or Cashapona, is a palm native to rainforests in tropical Central and South America. It can grow to 25 meters in height, with a stem diameter of up to 17 cm. It has unusual stilt roots, the function of which have been debated, and many species of epiphyte have been found growing on the palms. The palm is pollinated by beetles and various organisms consume their seeds or seedlings.

Iriartea exorrhiza, Mart. (I. bungerothii, Hort.). Trunk about 35 ft. tall, crowned by a congested cluster of 10-20 showy lvs.; each bearing 15-20 pairs of lfts., the latter about 20 in. long and 1 ½ wide: spadices 1-4, appearing between the lvs. ; fls. yellow : fr. olive-green, reticulate.
