Silene stellata, Ait. Starry Campion. Perennial. 2-3 ft. high: sts. erect, branched, pubescent: lvs. in whorls of 4 (the uppermost and lowest sometimes opposite), ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, 2-3 in. long: fls. white, nodding, in an open panicle; calyx campanulate, pubescent, inflated; petals laciniately cleft, unappendaged. Woods, Mass. to Neb., south to Ga. and Texas. B.M. 1107 (as Cucubalus stellatus). B.B. (ed. 2) 2:63. CH
