Senecio saxifragoides, Hook. f. A perennial herb from a stout rootstock: st. about 1 ft. high, branched, covered at the base with a long silky-woolly tomentum and clothed above with white hairs intermixed with purple setae: radical lvs. petiolate, oblong-elliptic to nearly orbicular, 3-5 in. long, 1 3/4 in. broad, denticulate, appressed-villous, setose near the margin, and more or less glabrous above, hoary-woolly beneath: heads several, corymbose, radiate; rays 18-20, yellow; disk-fls. numerous: achenes glabrous. New Zeal. B.M. 8394.—Intro. into England in 1908 and brought to flower two years later at Kew; it is a strikingly beautiful plant worthy of cult. CH
