Perennial, 1 ft. or more high: sts. herbaceous, erect, subsimple, white-lanate: lvs. petiolate, pinnatifid, laxly lanate beneath, the lobes ovate, sinuate-dentate, with spiny, acuminate teeth; floral lvs. and bracts imbricate, very spiny: floral whorls remote, densely many-fld.; calyx inflated, lanate; corolla lilac, the midlobe of the lower lip fimbriate.
