Rhododendron schlippenbachii, Maxim. (Azalea Schlippenbachii, Kuntze). Three to 5 ft.: branchlets glandular-pilose: lvs. cuneate, broadly obovate, 2-5 in. long, rounded and mucronate at the apex, hirsute on both sides or glabrous at length: fls. with the lvs., 2-3 in. broad, pale rose-colored, upper lobes spotted reddish brown; stamens 10.
