Bush, up to 6 ft. high or sometimes acaulescent: lvs. petioled, varying from subrotundate and obtuse to elliptic and acute: head sessile; outer involucral bracts ovate to ovate-lanceolate, inner lanceolate, oblong, acuminate, tomentose, exceeding the fls.; ovary oblong, covered with long whitish hairs.
