Pinus wallichiana (Pinus excelsa, Wall. P. nepalensis, Chambr.). Attains 150 ft., with spreading and slightly ascending branches forming a broad open pyramid: branchlets greenish, glabrous, glaucous: winter buds cylindric- pbovate, acute: lvs. slender, flaccid, drooping, grayish or bluish green, 6-8 in. long: cones cylindric on l-2-in.-long stalks, 6-10 in. long; seeds brown, 4 lines long. Himalayas. —Handsome tree, of somewhat loose habit, with graceful pendulous foliage, hardy as far north as Mass, in sheltered positions. Var. zebrina, Bailly (var. variegata.Hort.), has the lvs. with a whitish zone near the tip. CH
