Pelecyphora aselliformis, Ehrb. (from a fancied resemblance to Asellus, the wood-louse). Juice watery: tubercles ashy green, more or less deeply grooved to the woolly axil; spines not projecting beyond the margin of areole: fls. purple with paler sepals: fr. near the center, red. Nuevo Leon and San Luis Potosi, Mex. I.H. 5:186. Var. concolor has pure purple fls. B.M. 6061. CH
