Paeonia peregrina, Mill. Sts. about 1 1/2-2 ft. high: lvs. 5-6 on a st., deep green and glabrous above, pale green and pilose beneath ; otherwise the lvs. and fls. are much like those of P. officinalis. Eu. — Two garden forms with double fls. are: amaranthescens spherica, and pulcherrima plena, the latter differing from the former in the purple shade of crimson fls. This species name is used by, Huth. to cover a number of the forms that by others are regarded as tenable species. CH
