Standard Cyclopedia of Horticulture

Mertensia alpina, Don. Mostly smooth and somewhat glaucous but sometimes pubescent, only a few inches high: leaves oblong, spatulate or lanceolate, somewhat obtuse, the cauline sessile: flowers blue, crowded, corolla 1/3– ¼ inches long, the tube rarely exceeding the corolla limb and equally or slightly exceeding the lanceolate calyx-lobes; anthers nearly sessile. Subalpine places in the Rocky Mountains.
