Iris paradoxa, Stev. Plants dwarf: lvs. linear, 3-6 in. long: st. 2-6 in. high: fl. large; outer segms. reduced to a mere claw, dark, covered with a dense pile; inner segms. 2 in. long, orbicular, lilac to white. Mountains of Ga. and N. Persia. B.M. 7081. Gn. 32:584; 46, p. 173; 59, p. 248 (var. choschab). Gt. 386. G.C. III. 29:104 (var. choschab).—A. fl. with singular combinations of color. Grows in dry situations, but requires shelter in winter. Long cult., but not common.
