Stemless: rootstock short, black: only 1 lf. somewhat irregularly divided into lobes, toothed on the outer half; petiole 5-7 in. long: fl-st. simple or once branched; fls. very large; sepals white, or flushed with purple: caps. 6-8. Rocky places, Eu. B.M. 8. Gn. 55, p. 13. J.H. III. 51:591; 61:583. G.W. 10. p. 245. Gn.M. 8:279. G. 27:534. C.L.A. 9:288. Var. angustifolius, Hort. (var. minor, Hort.).
