Ailanthus vilmoriniana, Dode (Pongelion Vilmorinianum, Van Tieghem. A. altissima var. spinosa, Bois). Tree, to 50 ft.: Ivs. 2-3 ft. long; Ifts. 17-35, oblong-lanceolate, 4-6 in. long, with 2-4 gland-bearing teeth near the base, glabrous or pubescent above, glaucescent and pubescent beneath: panicle to 12 in. Iong: fr. about 2 in. long. W. China.—Has proved at least as hardy as A. altissima at the Arnold Arboretum. CH
