Aechmea calyculata, Baker (Hoplophytum calycalatum, Morr.). Lvs. about 1 ft. long, with an oblong, dilated base, the blade minutely toothed and rounded at the tip, but terminated with a minute cusp: scape shorter than the lvs., with several deciduous lanceolate bract- lvs.; petals tongue-shaped, not 1/2in. long, bright yellow; fl.-bracts small, entire, reddish. S. Amer.

Grow in shady spot with great air circulation. Soil should retain water, and be watered when dry to touch. Water should be poured into cups of leaves regularly. Can be grown in soil, pots, moss in the crotch of trees.
